Description
Activated brain microglial cells release inflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide that play important roles in central nervous system antibacterial, antiviral, and antitumor activities. Recent studies using the rat animal model indicate that select cannabinoids modulate production of these inflammatory factors. Treatment with cannabinoid enantiomers CP55940 and CP56667 results in stereoselective inhibition of inducible NO production through CB1 receptors.
