Description

Also known as false dragonhead, this member of the mint family offers pink to purple snapdragon like flowers and thrives with little fuss in loamy soils. When planted among other perennials, its stems are naturally supported and its upright form is maintained even as it reaches full height. It prefers full sun to partial shade and moist to mesic conditions, performing well in loam, clay loam, or gravelly loam. Blooming from August to September, its rhizomatous roots help it form durable clumps, while the flowers draw bees and occasional hummingbirds, and its mint lineage makes it less appealing to browsing mammals.
