This activity will review the fundamentals of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), including modes of transmission, pathophysiology, testing, prevention, and updated recommendations for treatment and monitoring. The impact of Florida law on testing, reporting, and notification issues will also be outlined. This accredited activity has been designed for pharmacists. Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to identify recommendations for HIV testing and differences between available tests, explain treatment options and monitoring parameters for patients living with HIV, recognize tools used for HIV prevention, and define how Florida law impacts testing, reporting, and patient/partner notification issues.
