Elnathan John is a lawyer, novelist and satirist. His short stories have been shortlisted twice for the Caine Prize for African Writing. He was named in 2013 by the Africa Report as one of Africa's most promising new writers. His debut novel, Born on a Tuesday, was awarded the prestigious Betty Trask Award in 2017 and was shortlisted for the Nigeria LNG Prize for Literature in 2016. A lawyer by training, Elnathan served as the founding editor of the website Nigeria's leading online news website, Premium Times. He lives in Berlin and is a 2019 recipient of the Berlin Senate grant for non-German literature.
