CVNE is as close to a sure thing as you get in Rioja. Decanter said it’s among Rioja’s best producers. The 2019 CVNE Imperial Reserva was cropped from a very healthy year with good ripeness and balance, a powerful vintage with a 185-day vegetative cycle. In the glass, this Reserva is a dark, saturated ruby-black with deep staining tears. The nose opens to black currants, black raspberry, licorice, clove, dusty rocks and Madagascar vanilla pod. The palate is where this wine begins to unveil its potential. Rich and polished with plenty of sappy resinous oak tones that give way to rosemary, a touch of pine needle and cedar bark. Fresh, yet powerful, and very long on the finish, this Reserva has years and years of life ahead of it. Drink now–2040.
