Produced in collaboration with Ink Institute, the Qing Yan Zhi Red ink is based on the classic carmine red glaze from the Qing Dynasty. The development of this specific color involved extensive studies, mimicking antique glaze reduction tests and pure reagent analyses, allowing the revival of more than 60 historic glazes and documentation of each formula. Through this color project, titled Yan Cai, the artist pursues the notion that one can be involved in every phase of their art-making process, from the development of the medium, to the physical craftsmanship, to the firing and completion of the object.
