Description
This course provides nurses with information regarding safety concerns associated with alarm fatigue along with evidence-based research strategies to reduce the fatigue. Over time, hospital clinicians become used to hearing many alarms and tend to become desensitized to them, which leads to a lack of or delay in response. This phenomenon is called 'alarm fatigue.' We know that alarm fatigue can lead to patient harm and sentinel injury. Reducing patient harm from alarm fatigue is one of the 2022 national goals for patient safety set by The Joint Commission (2022a).
