Description

100% Nebbiolo. A benchmark vintage for Barbaresco, the 2016 growing season was marked by a warm, dry summer and a long, slow ripening period. The resulting wines are structured, concentrated, and age-worthy. The Pora vineyard is located in the village of Barbaresco, in the heart of the Barbaresco DOCG. The vineyard is located on a south-facing slope, with soils composed of limestone and clay. The vines are trained in the traditional Guyot system. The wine is aged for 24 months in a combination of new and used French oak barriques, followed by an additional 12 months in bottle prior to release. The wine is unfined and unfiltered. The wine is characterized by its deep ruby color, with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and rose petal. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with a silky texture and a long, lingering finish. The wine is characterized by its energy and lift. Layered notes of red currant, dried cherry, orange peel, licorice, forest floor, and subtle spice. Silky texture with a graceful, seamless progression across the palate. This mature Riserva pairs beautifully with: braised beef or veal (e.g., stracotto or brasato al Barbaresco), roasted lamb, or grilled steak.
