25 years ago, in a small shop in the Willamette Valley, Dave was working on a decoy that he believed would change the way he hunts. What he didn’t realize; was that he was also sculpting the foundation of DSD. While this decoy has changed over the years, to us it doesn’t just represent the start of the company, but also a symbol of everything we strive for to this day and what we value; ultra realism, attention to detail, and deadly effectiveness. The Original Dave Smith decoy was actually designed to be a Taverner’s Canada Goose. In fact, the “Tav” in the company name Dave Smith Decoys is a nod to this original decoy. Over the years, the Tav design has evolved, but its legacy remains central to who we are.
